You’ve prepared. You’ve taken practice tests. Now the night before the SAT is here and this is not the time to study hard or stress out. What you do tonight can affect how you feel tomorrow. So here are the best ways to stay calm, confident, and ready.
1. Don’t Try to Study Everything Again :
It might feel like a good idea to go over everything one last time, but it usually makes things worse. Your brain already knows what it needs to. Studying too much now can just confuse you or make you more anxious.
If you must review something, look at a few key formulas or flashcards for 15 minutes. Then stop. Give your mind a break.
2. Get Your Things Ready Tonight :
Avoid a rushed morning. Pack your bag in the evening, including your SAT ticket, ID, pencils, eraser, calculator, snacks, and water. Choose your clothes and keep your breakfast plan simple.
Doing all this tonight means you’ll wake up with less to think about.
3. Stay Off Social Media :
Scrolling through Instagram or SAT chats won’t help. In fact, it might make you doubt yourself. Comparing your prep with others is unnecessary now.
Keep your phone on “silent” mode or “Do Not Disturb” mode. Set the alarm clock, then put your phone where you cannot see it from your bed!
4. Calm Your Brain :
If you feel nervous, that is okay! But don’t try to “force” yourself to relax; just do something that will help you slow down naturally, like take a short walk, stretch, or listen to soft music.
Journaling can also flush your mind. You don’t have to be totally calm; rather, just have a sense of being in control.
5. Visualize your best morning :
Take a moment to close your eyes and imagine you wake up in time, have your breakfast, arrive at your exam centre, and settle down as you feel prepared.
This easy technique will allow your brain to begin to feel prepared and minimize its surprise regarding the events of the next day. It’s not silly, it actually works.
6. Go to Bed at a Normal Time :
Don’t try to sleep way earlier than usual. If you usually sleep at 10:30, stick close to that. Trying to sleep too early can make you more restless.
Avoid caffeine in the evening. Take a warm shower, dim your lights, and stop using screens at least 30 minutes before bed.
Even if your sleep isn’t perfect, just lying down and resting is still helpful.
